What Spills Out of Us
A professor once stood before her class holding a cup of coffee.
As she moved through the room, someone accidentally bumped into her, and coffee spilled everywhere.
The room grew quiet as she paused and then asked her students a simple question:
“Why did the coffee spill?”
One student quickly answered, “Because someone bumped into you.”
The professor gently shook her head.
“No. The coffee spilled because coffee was in the cup. If tea had been in the cup, tea would have spilled.”
She went on to explain:
“Whatever is inside the cup is what spills out when life bumps into you.”
It’s such a simple picture… but it holds such deep truth.
When we’re jostled by disappointment…

What spills out of us reveals what we’ve been filled with.
If we’re filled with anger, bitterness, jealousy, or anxiety, those are the things that pour out in our words, our reactions, our thoughts.
But if we’re filled with patience… kindness… gentleness… truth… hope…
Then even in hard moments, something different spills out.
The reality is—we are being filled every single day.
Filled by headlines.
Filled by social media.
Filled by noise, fear, outrage, comparison, and the relentless weight of the world’s brokenness.
And if that’s all we’re taking in… it’s no wonder so many hearts feel anxious, weary, and depleted.
But God offers a different filling.
His Word.
His presence.
His peace.
His reminders of what is eternal when everything around us feels unstable.
This is the heartbeat behind Just Between Us.
