Dear Friend,

One of the hardest things is when someone we care about lets us down. Whether it’s being wounded by a friend we trusted, misunderstood by those we thought would stand beside us, or left disappointed when expectations we had were not met. In those moments, it’s easy to wonder where God is. Here’s the truth: people may fail us, but God never will.

In this week’s issue, you’ll find stories of God’s steadfast love in the middle of human imperfection. We’ll see how to forgive even the deepest wounds, how to respond with grace to difficult people, and how to find God’s presence in the tangled mess of relationship conflict. Our prayer is that you’ll walk away encouraged—not because people will suddenly stop letting you down, but because you’ll be reminded that the One who loves you most never will.

God Is Always Faithful, Even When People Aren’t

Finding Blessings and Hope in Seasons of Hurt and Disappointment.

By: Cherie Burbach

When I was young, I thought that when people let me down, it was because God was not happy with me. As a kid, I dealt with lots of challenges (being given away for adoption and then raised by an abusive alcoholic were a couple of them), and every time I felt the sting of disappointment, I would pray angrily to God and ask where He was. Then my prayers would turn to, “Why don’t you like me, God?”

I did this over and over throughout my childhood, always reaching out to God with anger and yet clinging to Him at the same time. Again and again, He showed me that He loved me and was there for me. No matter how many times I came to Him with confusion and sadness, I left comforted.

Once I became an adult, I finally began to see that thinking poorly about God when people let me down was what the Enemy wanted. God was faithful and good. So why did I think the behavior of others had to do with Him?
