While waiting for my husband to return from a fishing trip it occurred to me how much time is spent here on Earth. . . waiting! Waiting for a new job to start, graduation to come, a family member to come to Christ, a stoplight to change, water to boil, a dryer cycle to end, and company to arrive. As believers in Jesus, we also wait on God: for guidance, timing, answers to prayer, and more. With waiting on my mind, I’m reminded of Abraham and Sarah’s story in the Bible.
The Fullness of Time in the Life of Abraham
When Abraham was seventy-five years old, God promised him offspring, telling Abraham that He would make him into a great nation (Gen. 12:2).
After some time had passed, Abraham and his wife, Sarah, were still childless. So Abraham talked to God about it (Gen 15). It was then that God specifically promised a son to Abraham—an heir—his own flesh and blood. Upon hearing God’s promise to him, Abraham believed God.
