Dear Friends,

Do you ever find yourself weighed down by lies about who you are or what you’re capable of? Whether it's comparing yourself to others, doubting your worth, or wondering if you're truly enough, these lies can shape how we see ourselves and our place in this world. But the truth is, God has made you for a purpose, and He sees you as His beloved child. In today’s issue, we’ll explore how to break free from the "if only" mindset, discover the truth of who you are in Christ, and embrace the reality that you are enough because of His love.

We are so grateful you're here with us, and we pray this issue encourages you to live with the assurance that you belong to Him.

Encouraging you in God’s truth,

From “If Only” to “Only Jesus”

The truth is: You are enough. You are loved. And you are created by a perfect God who wouldn't change a thing about you.

From “If Only” to “Only Jesus”

By: Dyann Shepard

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Cor. 5:17).

Have you ever said to yourself, “If only… If only I were thinner, younger, smarter, more accomplished, not divorced, not insecure. If only I had better role models as a child, I would have been a wiser parent and wife.” So many thoughts of “could have” or “should have.” Maybe you have made excuses like: What if my parents had spent more time with me, not been so busy, not been an alcoholic, not been mentally ill, or lived a committed Christian life? Then I would have been, well, just better.

THE COMPARISON TRAP

I have wasted so much time and energy on these thoughts. It is easy to do in a world filled with constant reminders of women who have had it all and done it all. They seem to be perfect mothers, wives, and homemakers. They run successful businesses, win awards, and list accolades and accomplishments. In a word, they are perfect. I am not. Social media has not been helpful. There is a constant and consistent pressure to control and compare our lives with others. It is easy to be distracted and lose sight of what is valuable and who is valuable. I love the way Rick Warren puts it: “Never confuse prominence and significance. Something can be prominent but not significant. My nose is prominent, but it's not significant. I could lose my nose and keep on living the rest of my life. But, inside me, there are things no one ever sees, like my liver, heart, and lungs. They’re not prominent, but if I lost them, I’d die.”

It is easy to squander time and energy on activities, thoughts, and pursuits that are not significant. I have spent valuable time on things I could not control and often missed blessings right in front of me. Like many, I wish I could have a "do-over" in some areas of my life. I can’t, of course, but I can refocus and remind myself of all the good things that have happened. For instance, I never went hungry, although I was penniless at times. God always provided a female mentor to model godly living: my grandmother, a boyfriend's mother, or a kind friend who loved and showed me a better way to live.

The enemy of our soul wants to keep us focused on what we lack and not what God has provided in Himself. God desires to lift us from concentrating on our deficiency. Our enemy wants to keep us lingering and permanently living in our spiritual poverty.
