Encouraging You in God’s Truth,
3 Signs of a Healthy Spirit
In yesterday’s article, The Remedy for Spiritual Renewal, Barbara Rodgers reminded us that no earthly elixir can restore our souls—only God can. When we’re spiritually drained, it’s easy to neglect prayer, Scripture, and stillness with Him. But true renewal comes from His presence, not quick fixes.
So how do we know if our spirits are healthy? Here are three signs that God is strengthening and refreshing your soul.
1. A Heart Full of Peace
A spirit that is healthy is marked by peace—peace that doesn’t depend on circumstances but comes from knowing and trusting that God is in control. When we’re walking closely with the Lord, we experience His peace in every season.
📖 Reflect: Philippians 4:6-7
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
✏️ Act: Is there an area of your life where you feel anxious or unsettled? Take a moment right now to hand it over to God in prayer. Ask Him to replace your worries with His peace, trusting that He is in control.
2. A Spirit That is Grateful
Gratitude flows from a healthy spirit. When we have a heart of gratitude, we begin to see God's blessings more clearly, even in the small moments of life. A thankful heart shifts our perspective and keeps us grounded in God's goodness.
📖 Reflect: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
✏️ Act: Make a list today of five things you are grateful for. It could be big or small—whatever draws your attention to God's faithfulness in your life.
3. A Desire for Growth and Transformation
A healthy spirit craves growth. It desires to be transformed into the likeness of Christ. As we engage with God's Word, prayer, and community, we are continually shaped and refined into the people He created us to be.
📖 Reflect: Romans 12:2
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, and perfect will."
✏️ Act: Ask yourself: How am I growing spiritually? What steps can I take this week to nurture my relationship with God and grow more like Jesus? Whether it’s diving deeper into Scripture, spending time in prayer, or serving others, take one step this week to move forward.
Reflect & Act
A healthy spirit is a sign of a heart that is close to God. If you want to assess where your spiritual health stands, use these signs as a mirror to reflect on your own life. It’s not about perfection; it’s about moving forward in your journey with God and growing deeper in your faith.
Give Me Jesus by Jeremy Camp
“Give Me Jesus” is a beautiful reminder that true renewal comes when we seek Jesus above all else.
Father, I come to You feeling the weight of life’s busyness, distractions, and struggles. I don’t want to just go through the motions—I want to be spiritually healthy, rooted in You, and thriving in my faith. Help me to recognize when my soul is weary and to turn to You instead of pushing through on my own strength. Renew my heart, restore my joy, and deepen my love for Your Word. Give me a hunger for Your truth and the discipline to spend time with You daily. Thank You for always being my source of life and strength. I trust You to refresh me as I seek You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
