Digging Deeper | Listening for God’s Voice
A simple, practical way to live out the truths from this week’s magazine.
Dear Friends,
Have you ever wished you could hear God more clearly? Maybe you’ve been asking for guidance but feel like you’re met with silence. Or perhaps you’ve sensed God’s leading but struggled to trust His direction.
Hearing God’s voice isn’t about trying harder—it’s about quieting our hearts and making space for Him to speak. God doesn’t shout over the noise of life; He whispers in the stillness. The question isn’t whether God is speaking—it’s whether we’re listening.
In this week’s Just Between Us magazine, Lisa Samra reminded us that listening to God isn’t just about hearing—it’s about obedience and trust. If you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, you can catch up here:

Encouraging You in God’s Truth,
Are You Listening for God’s Voice?
Sometimes we want God’s guidance, but we’re not creating space to hear Him. Take a moment to reflect on how you’ve been listening to God:
💭 Are you filling your life with too much noise?
Are distractions, busyness, or stress keeping you from hearing God’s quiet whisper?
"Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10a
💭 Are you rushing through prayer without leaving space to listen?
Are your prayers more about talking than listening?
"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." — John 10:27
💭 Are you resisting God’s direction because it’s not what you expected?
Has God already spoken, but you’re hesitant to step forward in faith?
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." — Proverbs 3:5
Try These 3 Ways to Hear God’s Voice This Week
This week, try these simple, practical steps to grow in listening for God’s voice:
➡️ 1. Start with 5 Minutes of Silence Each Day
Before you begin praying, sit quietly for five minutes. Ask God to calm your heart and speak to you. Simply listen. If your mind wanders, gently refocus on God’s presence.
➡️ 2. Personalize a Scripture Verse
Take a Bible verse and insert your name into it, making it a personal word from God. For example: "Sarah, trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." — Proverbs 3:5
➡️ 3. Keep a Listening Journal
Write down your prayers, but leave space to record what you sense God is speaking to your heart. Pay attention to recurring thoughts, scriptures, or impressions. Over time, patterns may emerge that reflect God’s guidance.
Speak to Me | Kari Jobe
This worship song reflects the heart of hearing God’s voice. As you listen, open your heart and ask God to speak to you. Trust that He is near, ready to lead and guide you.
Father, thank You for being a God who speaks. Quiet my heart so that I can hear Your voice more clearly. Help me to recognize Your leading and to trust Your direction, even when it feels uncertain. When life gets noisy, give me the grace to slow down and sit with You. Open my heart to receive Your guidance and teach me to respond with obedience. Thank You for walking with me every step of the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
