Day 12 | Divinity Wrapped in a Blanket
Joy in the Quiet Wonder of Knowing God Came Close
Dear Friends,
Today marks our twelfth day together, and as we celebrate this last reflection in our journey of Christmas joy, we hope it brings you closer to the quiet wonder of God’s love made small, wrapped in a blanket, and held close.
As a special Christmas gift to you—whether you're a free or paid subscriber—this final reflection is available in full to everyone. We wanted to share this message freely as a reminder that God’s love is for all, given without condition, and extended with grace.
Encouraging you in God’s truth,
Divinity Wrapped in a Blanket
By: Jill Briscoe
Divinity wrapped in a blanket,
Laid in the arms of the race,
Slept while His Father kept silent,
Watching with tears on His face.
The godhead resides in a body,
So weak and incredibly small,
While angels bereft of their treasure,
Try to make sense of it all.
Divinity wrapped in a baby.
How simple, yet simply profound,
Like the kings and the shepherds I worship,
And bow myself down to the ground.
Infinity chose to be finite,
Omniscience made Himself known,
Omnipotence laid down His power,
Emmanuel made my heart home.
Unspeakable gift, softly spoken,
Unimaginable love made so clear,
Immeasurable grace of the Father,
Bringing us all nations so near.
Divinity wrapped in a blanket,
Eternity visiting time,
Stopped all the clocks in the heavens,
As God chose to make Himself mine.

This poem reminds me that Christmas joy is found in the humbling reality of God’s love made small, wrapped in a baby, and held in human arms. The immense love of God chose to enter our world not as a king in splendor but as a helpless infant, fully present with us in our humanity. Joy, in this light, is not about outward celebration alone but about the quiet wonder of knowing God came close, bringing His infinite love into our world.
Seeing the Creator of the universe wrapped in a blanket stirs a deep, lasting joy. This joy isn’t based on perfect circumstances or temporary happiness, but on the astounding truth that God, in His vastness, became Emmanuel—God with us. This is a joy that we can carry through every moment of our lives, a joy rooted in knowing that He came to dwell with us, to experience life with us, and to fill even the simplest moments with His presence.
This Christmas season, I want to slow down and hold on to this kind of joy—the joy of God’s companionship, His nearness, and His unbreakable love. In celebrating the humility of Jesus’ birth, I am invited to let this divine joy fill my heart and overflow into everything I do.
Read:
John 1:14; Philippians 2:6-7; Isaiah 9:6
Reflect:
What does it mean to me that God chose to be present with us in such a vulnerable, human way?
How does Jesus’ humility and closeness encourage me to draw nearer to Him in my daily life?
In what ways can I carry the love of “God with us” into my own relationships this Christmas season?
Lord Jesus, thank You for choosing to come to us as a humble, vulnerable baby, making the fullness of God’s love visible and present in our world. I am in awe of the lengths You went to draw near to me. Help me to grasp the depth of Your love and to respond by opening my heart to You more fully. As I reflect on Your willingness to come down to us, teach me to see You in the ordinary and to share Your love with those around me. This Christmas, may my heart be a home for You, Emmanuel. Amen.
Thank you for joining us in this journey of Christmas joy. We wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and may the JOY of Jesus fill your hearts and homes this holiday season!

What a beautiful way to end this journey—reflecting on the incredible humility of our Savior. Jill’s poem captures truths about God’s love and presence, and it’s a reminder I deeply needed this season.
How are you finding joy in the quiet wonder of Emmanuel this Christmas? We’d love to hear how this reflection resonated with you or how you’re experiencing God’s nearness right now. Let’s encourage one another in this amazing truth: God came close! 💛
